The WIC Association is comprised of WIC local agency Coordinators with varying knowledge of program administration. The association started out as the NYC Steering Committee in 1979. It's goal and mission were as follows:
- To promote public awareness of new and existing Federal, State and City legislation involving health, food and nutrition.
- To initiate efforts to assure the maximum Federal and State funding available for the Metropolitan Region.
The NYC Steering Committee was later incorporated as the Metropolitan WIC Association. In 2011, a grant was awarded by the New York Council of Non-Profits, Inc. (NYCON) for funding and technical support. The grant allowed for the restructuring of the Association and the development of a stronger foundation to ascertain its goals. The name was changed to Metropolitan NYC WIC Association. A Mission, Vision statement and logo were established.
